Home > SCSC starts off BML flying high

SCSC kicked off its return to the top flight of the Barnsley Minor League in top fashion winning a close contest at Ponds Forge yesterday , 7th March. In a competition that saw leads change by the swim, SCSC held off Wakefield and Stocksbridge to take pole position in the standings.

With a relatively strong squad to choose from, Coaches Colin, Jeff and Jess set their line-up accordingly. After a slow start, SCSC kicked into high gear and trailed only Wakefield after 24 events by the score of 91 to 88, just ahead of Stocksbridge, who were sitting third on 87 points. But, it was in the middle portion of the competition where SCSC really poured it on and it showed as we led Wakefield by 1 point, 135 to 134 after 36 events, with Stocksbridge sitting on 127 and Rotherham on 102.

In the final 12 events, SCSCand Wakefield withstood a strong surge from Stocksbridge to go into the final event–the Canon Relay –level on points at 176 with Stockbridge behind by only 4. It all came down to the Canon as SCSC pipped Wakefield to the finish. The winning Canon Relay team consisted of: Emily Kemp, Ben Gresham, Hope Middleton, Will Beaumont, Emily Nuttall, Nathan Kirby, Heather Hall and Sam Cooper.

The final tally saw SCSCwith 188 points, Wakefield 186, Stocksbridge 180 points and Rotherham 136. Well done to all swimmers on an excellent job swimming. All the coaches were proud of the performances put in by the swimmers, showing that their hard work in training has paid off. The season is far from over, but we have made a very good start to this campaign.
